Grant Shapps MP makes joint appearance with Caroline Ansell in Eastbourne Town Centre

The Right Honourable Grant Shapps MP, Conservative Party Chairman, today joined Caroline Ansell, Prospective MP for Eastbourne & Willingdon at Bankers Corner in Terminus Road where they conducted a canvass of public opinion ahead of the vote on James Wharton's Private Members Bill, committing an EU Referendum to law. Voting takes place in Parliament on 5th July.

The future of maternity care at the DGH

I find it very disappointing that after all that has been said and done locally, these health bosses seem set to divert mums from home all the way to Hastings. We have a Secretary of State’s ruling that both Eastbourne and Hastings need consultant-led maternity services – down to East Sussex Health Trust to deliver this. The Trust needs to make public full information on its failed efforts to retain or recruit staff.

In the immediate term, I am pleased to report that cutting back overgrown shrubbery and improvements in lighting have already improved lines and sight and security. Talks continue between the Neighbourhood Panel and East Sussex County Council and further action is expected.

Ride and Stride

Ride & Stride’, a county -wide fundraising initiative for sussex historic churches trust. “What a great way to raise funds. ‘The Ansell 4′ visited seven churches in and around Meads and Old Town. Everywhere we went we were greeted as friends and there was great camaraderie amongst fellow walkers and cyclists.

Money for Meads

Local groups have been helped with donations from your Councillors’ devolved ward budget:£10,000 for one-off spends with positive impact within the ward to support a ‘Quality Environment’, ‘Prosperous Economy’ and ‘Thriving Community.’ Some donations have lent festive cheer, some optimised space, others provided convenience(s)!

Street Market - Terminus Road

A new initiative by local businesses for local businesses launched in August. The weekly market is staged at the Pier end of Terminus Road. 27 stalls with an array of delicious produce from artisan breads to … as well as crafts, jewellery and children’s toys will delight the eye and tempt the wallet.
