Caroline Ansell invited an Ocklynge Junior School pupil to parliament this week as part of her prize for winning a short story competition.
Year 5 pupil Iyla Summerford, her sister and her mum all came up to London on Monday and were given a tour of the palace.
Last year, Iyla won Caroline’s competition with her own interesting twist on the mythology of Loch Ness in Scotland with her story called The Legend of the Swamp-Weed Witch.
Part of the prize was an invitation to visit parliament.
“It was a total delight to take Iyla, mum and sister through the Chamber and show her exactly where she would sit should her ambition to be the Prime Minister come to pass,” said Caroline
“I got to hear all about Ocklynge School’s own Parliament and clearly it is very much inspiring the next generation of leaders and this is great news for the future of our democracy.
"Iyla’s winning story featured the Loch Ness monster so it was quite in keeping that we heard a Scottish piper playing on Westminster Bridge while we had ice creams on the Terrace.”
The MP added; “I’m super keen to open up opportunities for young people in Eastbourne and the short story competition has proved to be one such great initiative.”
Iyla said: “My favourite part was entering the No lobby and discovering what the MPs do in the corridor when the house divides for a vote. The most surprising thing was that all clocks in Parliament have an ‘F’ instead of an ‘X’ for the number 10 - even Big Ben!
It was an intriguing day that I’ll never forget- thank you so much “.
