Earlier this month I attended an event at Portcullis House organised by Sense, where I learned about the impact of the pandemic on disabled people and their families. I spoke to Emma Blackmore, who was born with congenital rubella syndrome which affects her vision and hearing, and shared her experiences of the pandemic including increased loneliness and anxiety. It was also a chance for MPs to learn more about International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which took place on December 3 to promote an understanding of disability issues and support for disabled people.
Lockdown and pandemic have hit different communities unevenly. Disabled people have had particular challenges and I back the campaign for the upcoming covid enquiry to particularly focus on the impact on disabled people.
