This morning I attended a briefing by the Sussex NHS overseeing the booster roll out.
The good news is that we continue to be on track to offer the vaccine for every eligible adult over the age of 18 by the end of the month. Although this is only a fortnight away the NHS has worked hard to ramp up capacity and new slots. This is vital as we head into the New Year.
For Eastbourne it is excellent that 65% of those currently eligible have stepped forward and had their booster. Thank you to all of those who have come forward.
Next week capacity across the town's vaccination sites at Sovereign Harbour Community Centre and Princes Park will be doubling the number of appointments on offer; the Beacon will see a quadrupling. The DGH will also be set up as a hospital hub to offer additional slots - all accessed on the National Booking Service.
Sovereign Harbour Community Centre will also be running vaccinations on Christmas day.
All housebound patients should be vaccinated by the end of the month.
Eastbourne has had a good headstart in getting boosted. ONS data shows the booster is 90% effective against infection for the delta variant. Latest estimates show good protection against omicron too.
