MP Caroline Ansell has thanked the local NHS for its booster vaccine rollout as latest figures show more than 34,000 people in Eastbourne have received the jab.
Government statistics found 34,395 have now been given either a third Moderna or Pfizer shot to protect them from Covid. This is 35.9% of the population aged over 12 and above the UK average of 33.1%
Further figures show 81.6% have received the first Covid jab in the town and 75.2% have had the second dose.
“This is really good news for Eastbourne, we are ahead of the national picture and it shows that many local people are happy to step forward and have their booster jab,” said Caroline.
“However, we need more people to book their appointment as the Government extends the booster rollout with the ambition to have offered a third jab to all adults by the end of January.
“This is the best way to protect everyone from Covid and to ensure we can continue to lead normal lives.
“For those who haven't had a jab at all I would say it’s never too late. The offer is evergreen. You can book anytime and get that vital protection.
“I know GP surgeries, nurses, the CCG and our volunteers are doing a brilliant job across our town. They will have a busy Christmas and New Year protecting us so I would like to thank them for their tireless work. It is saving lives and it’s an enormous contribution to the nation’s health.”
