This afternoon I led a debate in Westminster Hall on introducing a Natural History GCSE. This qualification has been designed by the exam board OCR and has support from schools across the country including the Eastbourne School's Partnership.
Schools across the town are doing a great job in embedding a love of nature across their curriculum. I particularly think of the new llamas at Parkland in Hampden Park, and West Rise Junior School's water buffalo!
However, a standalone GCSE would help cement core skills from science, and geography as part of a broad and balanced curriculum as well as equipping them for the future green economy.
I am pleased in response the Minister committed to consider this further as well as supporting these important skills further across the Key Stages.
