James was a true gentleman. He was kind and incredibly helpful to me on many occasions as an immigration minister when I needed assistance with local people facing deportation.
He was always quick to respond and he was quite rightly very well liked in Parliament by all sides for his integrity and friendliness.
His untimely passing is a sad loss to public life. His battle against cancer was bravely fought.
My thoughts are with his family who must be devastated but also proud of a man who achieved much and made a difference.
