I am incredibly saddened to hear of the death of Lord Lawson. He became patron of Eastbourne Conservative Association after moving to our town about three years ago to be nearer his family.
It was an honour to have met him on a number of occasions and to talk to him about politics today. His insights were razor sharp and his experience and advice invaluable. I loved the time I spent with him.
British politics has lost a huge figure respected across the political divide. A Chancellor who helped transform our country to be more prosperous, more dynamic and a world beater.
Lord Lawson’s place in British political history is assured and he will be long remembered. My thoughts today are with his family at this sad time.
