Eastbourne MP Caroline Ansell has nominated a Willingdon landlord couple for the prestigious PubAid Community Pub Hero award that recognises those who helped their communities during the pandemic.
Gavin and Nicky Finnis, who run the Red Lion in Wish Hill, have offered free meals to children and donated money to the Eastbourne Foodbank as well as staying open for takeaways during the lockdowns.
“I am delighted to nominate the Red Lion for this ward and I thank Gavin and Nicky for what they have done to stay open, help children and keep their staff employed during the pandemic,” said Caroline.
"Many thanks to all the pubs in Eastbourne and Willingdon who have done so much to help their communities during this crisis."
The award is sponsored by alcohol wholesaler Matthew Clark and runs in conjunction with the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group.
Closing date for nominations to 30th November. The eight finalists will be invited, with their MP, to a reception in London early next year, where they will be presented with a certificate before the announcement of the overall winner.
