Caroline has welcomed a £440,000 additional government grant for the South Downs National Park.
About 40% of the constituency is within the park’s boundaries and it is a big tourist draw as Eastbourne is the eastern gateway town to the park.
The money will be used to help the park’s authority deal with inflationary pressures.
This includes helping it to protect vital assets such as educational centres and ranger services and to remain open and accessible. The nine other English national parks have received the same sum.
“The park is a huge part of Eastbourne’s tourism offer and I am delighted the government is supporting it and other national parks in this way,” said Caroline.
“The leisure and health benefits of being outdoors in natural splendour are well documented and securing access and services within our national park is really important and very welcome.”
The Government has also extended the Farming in Protected Landscapes programme by a year until March 2025 in a move also welcomed by Caroline.
The initiative has been in operation across all ten National Parks since 2021 to help with land management.
