Caroline Ansell is urging low income families to apply to the borough council for the government’s Household Support Fund this winter.
East Sussex has received more than £7.7 million up to March 2024 as part of the fourth round of grants.
To ensure as many families benefit as possible, the government has launched an awareness week to encourage vulnerable families to check what support is available.
Since the Household Support Fund launched in October 2021 nearly £20 million has been invested into East Sussex to help ease the cost-of-living pressures caused by the war in Ukraine and post-pandemic supply disruption.
“I am supporting this awareness campaign as it is important this fund gets to the households that need it in our town,” said Caroline.
“Councils are administering it because they can use local knowledge and directly reach people in our communities.
“Support is available to help with covering the costs of essentials like groceries, toiletries, warm clothes, and energy bills.”
She added: “I hope that families will get in touch to see if they are eligible.”
