Eastbourne and Willingdon MP Caroline Ansell has been recorded reading the Giant Jam Sandwich for children at Motcombe Infant School as part of World Book Day.
The video will be shown to the children on Monday when they return to lessons after lockdown.
The book is a favourite of Caroline’s from her sons’ early years and tells the rhyming story of when Itching Down was invaded by four million wasps. To trap the insects, the villagers decide to make a giant jam sandwich.
“As a former teacher, I know how the power of books can change lives and reading is absolutely key to learning and unlocking life’s opportunities,” said Caroline.
“I am delighted the children will be back in lessons on Monday and I hope they enjoy listening to the story as much as I enjoyed reading it for them – it’s fab.”
Motcombe headteacher Tracy Robinson said: “It was lovely of Caroline to give up her time to read a story for our children here at Motcombe.
“The story is delightful, and I know that the children will really enjoy it.
“World Book Day is an exciting day for the children who love to dress up and they will be very excited to know that an MP has made a video especially for them.”
