Caroline Ansell has congratulated Eastbourne- based Turkish restaurant Dem Shish after she watched it win a major award last night.
The South Street eatery was named the "best fine dining restaurant" at the National Kebab Awards held in central London.
Run by Kadir Akan and Emir Akdeniz, the pair collected the award alongside some of their team.
Caroline voted for the restaurant and promoted its involvement in the competition before the win.
“It was brilliant to see Dem Shish win this prestigious award from among the best of the best in the nation,” said Caroline.
“What lovely people they are and they dedicated this great achievement to Eastbourne as they’ve received such a tremendous reception from people in our town.
“I was proud to be there and to be the first to congratulate them and to thank them for putting Eastbourne on the map.
“On the night, I invited the event sponsor, Karan Bilimoria, founder of global brand Cobra Beer, to come to Eastbourne to taste and see. I hope to welcome him soon.”
The restaurant has been involved in a number of community initiatives recently such as opening on Christmas day for a free "Alone at Christmas event".
And recently it had a fundraising evening where all revenue went to the Government run DEC appeal fund for the Turkish/Syria Earthquake where an incredible £11,000 was raised.
Politicians from all parties and industry figures attended the annual event held at the Park Plaza which is now in its 11th year.
