Eastbourne Courts are due to close towards the end of the year.  I have been working closely with the Council and other partners, including the Surrey and Sussex Cluster Manager from HM Courts and Tribunal Service, to look at other facilities that may be available for a video linking facility.  Sites being considered include the Town Hall and No.1 Grove Road.  These sites can certainly be made available, and I am waiting to see if they are in fact suitable to make use of once the local court closes.

It’s clear that No. 1 Grove Road could offer just the type of facility that is required.

I will know more when a detailed assessment of needs have been carried out.  Clearly there are questions around cost, and security/health and safety to be considered and addressed.

I will keep this page updated with news as we learn more, and as ever will be interested in your views – email me on office@carolineansell.co.uk

Update Sept 2016;

‘There has been progress. The current position is that HMCTS are investigating use of a court room set up in an office in Eastbourne in another government department for certain types of cases, post Eastbourne closure.

They are also working with the police on looking at their new video link equipment which they have just had installed under their Video Enabled Justice project across Sussex, that may benefit vulnerable witnesses giving evidence.
